Gold ingots are similar to the gold bars that are in many Federal Reserves. Originally these ingots were used in china as a form of currency. The reason they are shaped like a small boat is because China was very much known for its exotic exports and shipping trades.  

 
The same way that boats used to circulate the world to spread the wealth of China, keeping gold ingots in your home is thought to circulate prosperity.
