Red Flowers in a Victorian Garden

Gardens from the Victorian Era were heavily imbued with a kind of symbolism. As in Feng Shui, red was the most favored color of flower but unlike a Chinese or Japanese garden the Victorian garden was often cluttered with every hue of flower.

Flowers were also used to create lucky designs including tarot and planetary symbols, clocks, oriental symbols and eastern symbols.  Herbs would be intricately trained to climb around clipped boxwood trees. Trees were also trained together to create celebratory arches.

It was also a sin for a Victorian garden to be bare. Even in the dead of winter, gourds and figs would be growing up the garden wall.

Peace Be Still Sam.
