 1. Many essential oils are so potent that they cause skin irritation. Don’t use them undiluted on the skin!  if used undiluted on the skin., Use carrier oils to dilute the essential oils to ensure safe results.
2. When applying essential oils to the skin, stay awy from the o face, eyes, lips, ears, vaginal lips and other sensitive areas.
Â
3. Don’t use the same dropper to apply different oil! Sometimes this can create chemical reactions, oil degradation and unpleasant perfumes.
4. Do not leave rubber droppers in the bottles as the oil will disintegrate the rubber and the rubber will degrade the oil
5. Start with less than a drop if you are applying the oil to pregnant women, the elderly or children. In aromatherapy recipes you will often see this referred to as a “smudge” of oil, rather than a drop of oil.
I just bought a therapeutic grade oil diffuser which consists of a fish pump and a glass bulb. The idea is the oil is pushed through the tube so that it is cold diffused through the air. The effect of this is very pungent and I don’t run it for too long because it is almost too effective! It fills my 800 square foot space with aroma so strong that I have to open a few windows.

Â
The three best oils for this are chamomile, lavender and marjoram. You can add a few drops of essential oil to a compress and place on the forehead or add a few drops to a lukewarm bath. A cold diffuser is also recommended to disperse the oil through the air.

Â
If you do decide to diffuse the scent through the air keep in mind that some migraines are made worse by strong smells. Chamomile oil has the least obtrusive scent. Marjoram has a very heavy scent that is not necessarily therapeutic for every individual, however it is recommended for individuals whose migraines are caused by severe stress. Lavender oil falls somewhat in between the two. Spiked Lavender generally has a lighter presence that other kinds of lavender oils.
