Anti-Viral Essential Oils
There are several essential oils that have proven antiviral effects so diffusing them in a room may help protect against the flu and the common cold. The oils that are officially known to have antiviral properties anise, bergamot, bay laurel, cinnamon bark, clary sage, dill, clove, eucalyptus, geranium, lavender, lemongrass, Melissa, rose, rosemary, sage, tea tree oil and thyme.

These oils contain specific antiviral compounds that are known to kill viruses when placed in a petrie dish. Some of these compounds are-
Anethol – the viral killing substance in Anise oil
Alpha-Sabines – found in Tea Tree and Bay Laurel
Beta-Caryophyllene – found in Rosemary, Lavender and Thyme
Carvone – unique to Dill oil
Cinnamic aldehyde – unique to Cinnamon Bark and Cinnamon Leaf il
Citral – found in Lemongrass and Melissa
Citronellol – found in some floral oils such as Rose and Geranium
Eugenol – unique in Clove oil
Gamma-Terpinene – Found in Eucalyptus Juniper, and Tea Tree oil
Linalol – a component of both Neroli and Lavender Oil
Linalyl acetate – found in Clary Sage, Bergamot and Lavender oils
