Essential Oils For Migraines

Migraine headaches have multiple triggers and the severe throbbing pain is caused by excessive contraction and dilation of the blood vessels in the head.  Typical triggers are allergies, stress, lack of sleep, too MUCH sleep, or emotional changes and the hormonal changes associated with pubescence, ovulation, perimenopause and menopause.

The three best oils for this are chamomile, lavender and marjoram.  You can add a few drops of essential oil to a compress and place on the forehead or add a few drops to a lukewarm bath.  A cold diffuser is also recommended to disperse the oil through the air.

If you do decide to diffuse the scent through the air keep in mind that some migraines are made worse by strong smells. Chamomile oil has the least obtrusive scent. Marjoram has a very heavy scent that is not necessarily therapeutic for every individual, however it is recommended for individuals whose migraines are caused by severe stress. Lavender oil falls somewhat in between the two. Spiked Lavender generally has a lighter presence that other kinds of lavender oils.

Eucalyptus Cleans Air of Viruses

Eucalyptus Oil Cleans The Air of Viruses

Aside from being the favorite salad for bears that live in Australia, Eucalyptus oil is extremely effective for coughs and colds. It is best filtered through a cold diffuser. A cold diffuser is a method where the oil is pumped through an air pump and dispersed through the air without heating. You can buy cold diffusers for your home but they are expensive. However when oils are heated they lose some of their therapeutic qualities.

When you breathe in molecules of eucalyptus oil it relieves pain, reduces inflammation and stimulates cells. It is also a mild antidepressant. It is good to have diffused through a home where the flu has been raging as it purifies the air.

One of my favorite combinations for a sick room is eucalyptus and pure essential oil of marjoram together. The marjoram is very calmly and goes will with the spicy yet pungent smell of eucalyptus.

Medical conditions that are helped by eucalyptus oil are bronchitis, asthma, headaches, sore joints, sinus headaches and congestion. One warning though, it can be a little bit too stimulating for epileptics is strong doses.

Oil Of Oregano And Strep Bacteria

When it comes to being an efficient fighter against bacteria and the flu you can’t beat oil of oregano. I have been using oil of oregano for some years now and rarely get sick. The compounds in it seem to destroy about everything in its past including the streptococcus pneumonia bacteria and a number of funguses and molds.

I have to say though it is not easy to swallow. Usually you take about two to seven drops in a glass of water, but I have been able to take up to twenty drops. It tastes worst than Buckley’s cough syrup – it has a ghastly turpentine back taste but it is worth it. Studies are also being done to study its effect of MRSA (methycillin resistant bacteria that leads to flesh eating disease.)

All I know is that I have been taking this stuff at least once a week and whenever I feel low and it seems to do a lot when it comes to taking away anything that might be overloading the immune system and thus making us more vulnerable to allergies and colds (not to mention any upcoming plagues such as the bird flu.)
